Preventitive Dental Care
In order to maintain healthy teeth, gums, and mouth, it is recommended taht you schedule a dental examination at least every six months. Prevention of tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental problems is the goal of the dentist.
During your initial visit, a comprehensive exam will be performed by the dentist. At this time and during regular check-up examinations the dentist and hygenist will perform all of the following:
- A Review of Dental and Medical History - The dentist may ask questions on healthissues that are relevant to dental care or on the care of your teeth.
- Dental X-rays (radiographs) - Necessary to gain more information about your teeth. X-rays will expose and detect tooth decay, cysts, tumors, bone loss, abcesses, and impacted wisdom teeth.
- Gum Disease Evaluation - Dentists will evaluate the dental x-rays and check the gums and bone around your teeth for any signs of periodontal disease (gum disease).
- Oral Cancer Screening - During the dental exam the dentist will check the head, face, and neck and then look at the lips, gums, tongue, throuat, and tissues inside the mouth, under the tongue, and on the roof o fhte mouth for a ny signs of oral cancer.
- Examination of exisitn g dental work - The dentist will check any previous or existing dental work such as crowns, fillings, etc.
- Tooth Decay Detection - Patiens will be examined clinically and by dental x-rays to expose and detect tooth decay
